DAY 2 : Kwun Yum Temple (Hung Hom) – Che Kung Temple (Lucky Windmill) – Wong Tai Sin Temple

Breakfast – Free at leisure, as waiting times for worship can be quite long each year.

05:00 hrs. – Transfer to Kwun Yum Temple (Hung Hom), a renowned temple famous for blessings related to wealth, debt relief, successful deals, and financial prosperity. On this special day, devotees may pray and symbolically “borrow money” from Goddess Kwun Yum, a sacred ritual that takes place only once a year.

After making a wish and borrowing money, those whose wishes are fulfilled are expected to return to give thanks to the Goddess and burn joss paper as an offering. (Guests who wish to perform the repayment ritual are kindly reminded to bring the red envelope received in the previous year.)

  • Today is one of the most significant and highly anticipated days of the year, when worshippers gather in great numbers. This day is known as “Open Treasury Day” or “Borrowing Money from the Deity Day”, which falls on the 26th day after Chinese New Year. The ceremony is held only once a year, and this year it takes place on March 14

Light incense and make a silent prayer.

  • State your full name and address.
  • Clearly state the amount of money you wish to borrow and the purpose (one request only, for yourself; no vows or pledges—simply make a sincere wish. Once your wish is fulfilled, return to express gratitude).
  • Place the incense sticks into the large incense urn.
  • Take a small amount of incense ash from the urn and place it into a small red envelope (ang pao) that you have prepared.
  • Hold the red envelope and circle it above the incense urn three times.

Please note: Queue times may vary each year depending on the number of devotees. Kindly be prepared for waiting.

Lunch – Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Afterwards, visit a renowned jewelry factory in Hong Kong, famous for its award-winning designs and auspicious feng shui jewelry. These unique pieces are inspired by the Che Kung Temple windmill blades, transformed into pendants, rings, and bracelets—perfect to wear as personal accessories believed to enhance luck and fortune.

Continue to Che Kung Temple (Lucky Windmill Temple), one of the most respected and historic temples in Hong Kong, widely revered by locals. Pay respects to the grand deity statue enshrined in the main hall, accompanied by a large drum and bell. Nearby stands the iconic auspicious windmill, which devotees traditionally spin before starting or expanding a business.

Prominent figures, officials, and celebrities frequently visit this temple to pray and spin the windmill, believing that turning it three times brings good fortune, smooth career progress, business success, harmony with superiors and colleagues, and helps dispel negative energy from one’s life.

Special Highlight: A well-known feng shui master of the temple will lead prayers and perform a blessing ceremony.

  • Visit Wong Tai Sin Temple (Sik Sik Yuen), one of Hong Kong’s most famous temples, popular among visitors seeking blessings for love and relationships from the Red Thread Deity, Yue Lao also known as the God of the Moon or the Old Man of the Moon.
  • At the center stands a statue of Yue Lao holding the Book of Soulmates, flanked by a bride on the left and a groom on the right, all connected by a symbolic red thread. In front of the statue, you will see hand gestures demonstrating how to thread the red string. Walk to the pavilion on the left-hand side to pick up a red thread, follow the hand gesture shown, and be careful not to drop the red thread, as it is considered inauspicious.

  • Special Highlight! Visit the secret underground chamber that houses the 60 Tai Sui deities, each representing a guardian spirit.
  • Proper worship tips: First, pay respects to the Tai Sui deity governing the year 2025, then proceed to worship the Tai Sui deity that personally protects you. Finally, stand at the Yin-Yang circle within the Eight Trigrams (Bagua) symbol and make a silent wish.

  • Visit A-Ma Temple, the oldest temple in Macau, built in 1488, dedicated to Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea and protector of travelers and sailors. Devotees pray for safe journeys, career success, and good fortune, with offerings such as incense, fruits, and tea.

  • Visit the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Macau’s most iconic landmark. Remnants of a 17th-century Jesuit church, once the largest Catholic church in East Asia and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
